BASICS Essex, an Essex-wide emergency medical charity is seeking local business support after joining as a member of the Essex Chambers of Commerce.
The charity, which consists of 25 volunteer clinicians, provides pre-hospital critical care across the heart of Essex communities at the request of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
The experienced team has responded to over 600 callouts in the past five years, with volunteer doctors and paramedics responding to road traffic collisions, cardiac arrests and other critical medical incidents. There was a 79% increase in callouts from 2022 to 2023.
Recently, the scheme was awarded over £40k in project funding for a new vehicle and PPE from the Help Appeal, via the British Association for Immediate Care, supporting its plans for wider incident reach across the county,
Despite this investment, the charity seeks ongoing fundraising support, with annual running costs of £60k per annum.
Paul Gates, Chairman of BASICS Essex, said; “We are extremely thankful to the Help Appeal for their continued support to the scheme, which will allow us to provide further pre-hospital critical care across the county, while the investment in PPE helps us to improve both the safety and ability of our volunteer clinicians to function in all conditions.
“With that said, continuous fundraising for our operations is always a challenge and we are looking forward to meeting new businesses and building relationships with Essex Chambers members.”
How can my business support BASICS Essex?
The charity has recently launched a ‘Sponsor A Clinician’ campaign, seeking new corporate partners to pledge yearly support to fund one or more of the clinical volunteers who respond within the scheme.
As part of the pledge, BASICS Essex can provide a complimentary CPR and AED workplace session for your business, as well as a promotional listing and regular updates from the team.
Alongside the campaign, the team is also seeking runners for the London Marathon with a handful of places left.
Paul finished; “We hope the campaign will bring more awareness of the critical work of our volunteers, raise importance of having appropriate CPR training in the workplace and ultimately support operational costs through sponsorship.”
